Fast Track Summer Exposure Camp

A Good Idea

This practice has been Archived and is no longer maintained.

Description

The International Student Athlete Academy (ISAA) Summer College Exposure Camp, FastTrack, is a 10 day residential experience that allows participants to experience the life of a collegiate student athlete. It is the only national, residential athletic-based camp where the focus is first and foremost on academics and not athletics (70% to 30%). The camp promotes personal and social skills. The camp serves at-risk, primarily African-American youth from area middle and high schools. The camp is rigorous, with 6am wake-ups, vigorous morning workouts, a college schedule of courses, daily assignments, guest speakers, group projects, strength and speed training, and skill development in their chosen sport. Each activity is highly supervised and free time is always at a minimum.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the Fast Track camp is to prepare young student athletes to make a successful transition from high school to college academically, athletically, and socially.

Results / Accomplishments

In the 10 years that the camp has operated, ISAA has never had a participant leave the camp. Nearly all (99%) of the students who have attended the camp have graduated from high school and 92% have enrolled in college.
