An Effective Practice

Description

Wellness On Wheels (WOW) is a health promotion, community outreach program of Wright County Public Health (WCPH). WOW services are provided throughout Wright County in a mobile public health office. The WOW van goes to 15 communities monthly, plus additional private or community events. Available services include: adult and child immunizations, health screening to identify risk factors, child car safety seat checks, distribution of products from public health programs and local agency projects, distribution of health literature, health counseling and teaching (1:1 and group), and referral and assistance in accessing resources. Interventions are directed at anyone in the community, regardless of age, health status, income or insurance status.

Goal / Mission

The objectives of WOW are to promote optimal health, to reduce behavioral risks and to promote early detection and improved management of health problems and risks.

Results / Accomplishments

In the 9½ years of the WOW program, 35,175 people have been served. Since 1998, this is a range of 3,400 to 5,400 people per year.
