Youth Speaks

A Good Idea

Description

Youth Speaks empowers youth by cultivating their intellectual and artistic development and by supporting oral and written literacy. It offers a number of programs and projects that foster literacy, from at-school workshops and SLAM (Student Led Arts Movement) clubs to mentorships and literary performance events.

Goal / Mission

Youth Speaks aims to empower youth and effect change through written and oral literacy.

Results / Accomplishments

Youth Speaks offers an array of services and projects for youth. It supports middle schools and high schools with on-campus workshops, classes, SLAM clubs, and assemblies. It also provides out of school workshops and mentorships. In addition, it hosts projects supporting literary performance, such as Brave New Voices, the largest spoken word event in the world. Youth Speaks engages oral literacy with social change projects such as The Bigger Picture, which addresses the factors of Type 2 Diabetes as an epidemic.
