Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN)

A Good Idea

Description

Established in 1991, when information about food allergies was scarce, Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) is a nonprofit organization that serves as a source of information, programs, and resources on food allergy and anaphylaxis. FAAN hosts a number of events annually such as Food Allergy Awareness Week and food allergy conferences. FAAN also funds research through its Research Grant Program and acts as an advocate in national and state legislation. It is funded by membership dues, donations, grants, and sale of materials.

Goal / Mission

FAAN aims to increase public awareness, promote advocacy and education, and advance research for those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.

Results / Accomplishments

In its 20-year history, FAAN has been involved in historic legislation regarding food labeling and created the Food Allergy Awareness Week initiative. As well, its educational programs and resources are used in schools across the country. Its membership includes nearly 22,000 members worldwide.
