Non-opioid pharmacological treatment and a full range of therapeutic options should be considered before initiating opioid therapy for chronic pain, including non-drug treatments such as exercise, massage, mindfulness, and yoga.
 

Following the MiHIA Community Coalition Accelerator Workshop on August 8, 2018, the Non-Opioid / Non-Pharma Priority Sub-workgroup set forth to accomplish the agreed upon regional goal through completion of aligning key strategies.

GOAL: To recognize that non-opioid medications and non-pharmacological treatments are the preferred methods for treating chronic pain and to facilitate a patient-centered approach to manage chronic pain
