Kartini Clinic

A Good Idea

Description

Kartini Clinic is an eating disorder program exclusively for children, adolescents, and young adults that provides evidence-based, family-centered treatment. The clinic's multidisciplinary team offers a full spectrum of services for treating anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified), binge eating disorder, food phobia, selective eating, and metabolic syndrome. Treatment at Kartini Clinic is always medically supervised and family-based, with parents as key members of a child's treatment team.

Goal / Mission

The overriding treatment goal of Kartini Clinic is to secure lasting remission of eating disorder symptoms, allowing patients and their families to return to their own communities. Using a holistic approach, embracing medical as well as psychological and social interventions, patients are treated with the belief that parents do not cause eating disorders and children do not choose to have them.

Impact

Since 1998, Kartini Clinic has treated more than 2,000 patients and their families for a range of eating disorders.

Results / Accomplishments

Since 1998 Kartini Clinic has treated more than 2,000 patients and their families from across the nation and around the world, from every walk of life and every conceivable socioeconomic background. From the outset, the program has been family-centered with a strong medical emphasis on prompt, adequate weight gain as a prerequisite to the resumption of normal growth and development. Kartini Clinic has developed a full spectrum of services, including Inpatient Medical Stabilization, Day Treatment, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient in order to provide medically necessary and clinically appropriate eating disorder treatment for children and young adults.
