The goal of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center's Community-Building/Vocational Services Initiative is to revitalize the neighborhood of Prospect Hill in Syracuse, New York by increasing community development and job placement.

In 2009, St. Joseph's dedicated $220 million to expand its facilities, with the goal of fueling economic growth within the community by increasing employment and expanding the hospital's capacity for new patients and visitors. In addition, the hospital introduced a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization strategy that includes an affordable and sustainable housing development, a home ownership initiative, and a green job training program.

Goal / Mission

The goal of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center's Community-Building/Vocational Services Initiative is to revitalize the neighborhood by increasing community development and job placement.

Results / Accomplishments

The Health Center expansion will create more than 100 new healthcare jobs and the affordable housing project resulted in 50 high-quality, sustainable, and affordable housing units. In addition, more than 75 neighborhood residents have participated in the job training program which has a 90% graduation rate.
