A Good Idea

Description

This state-sponsored 20-month pilot program provides grants up to $1 million each to local Workforce Investment Boards and community colleges. The California Green Jobs Corps is looking to train participants for jobs as workers, cost estimators, energy analysts, computer technicians and salespersons. The program will consist of a minimum of 10 regional Green Corps with at least one located in each of California’s nine economic regions. This program has been funded by $10 million in federal stimulus package dollars and $10 million from public-private partnerships.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the California Green Corps is to place 1,000 at-risk young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 into "green" jobs in order to stimulate the economy and provide opportunities for disadvantaged youth while improving and protecting the environment.

Results / Accomplishments

A solicitation for proposals began May 1, 2009.
